The city of Autun,
or "Augustodunum", was founded by the
Emperor Augustus, who wanted to offer the
Eduens a new capital. The city was designed according
to Roman standards.

Steeped in art and history, L'abbaye
de Cluny (which is now part of France's
Saône-et-Loire region), played a pivotal
role in the French and European monastic renewal
of the 10th and 11th centuries. From an architectural
standpoint, the church at Cluny was the largest
Roman church ever built.
Archaeological
site: Bibracte, ancient capital of the Gauls
During the second
and first century BC, at the end of the
Iron Age, a major Gallic city reigned from the
top of Beuvray hill. Surrounded by ramparts, Bibracte
was the capital of one of the most powerful tribes
of Gaul, the Eduens.

A multi-use trail that includes a 117 km-long
bicycle path running from Givry to Cluny crosses
